Marge’s Nightmare is Our Reality as The Simpsons Spoof the Presidential Race

The Simpsons is no stranger to making pointed political commentary, so did you think that the craziness of the 2016 U.S. Presidential race was going to pass without notice? Hardly. In a new video posted Saturday night, Marge is being driven to night terrors about the hyper-partisanship and the acidic vitriol of the presidential campaign so far, and while many of us aren’t hyperventilating yet, we’ve certainly felt like we have been. Can the presidential race be a bit more harmonious, as Homer suggests? Let’s find out. Continue reading “Marge’s Nightmare is Our Reality as The Simpsons Spoof the Presidential Race”

The Last Word of #elxn42 Goes to… John Oliver(?)

oliver_meyers

We’ve heard from a variety of different people during this historically long campaign, and the fact that for Canadians it has been historically long is, to use one comedian’s word, ” adorable.” Last night on his HBO show Last Week Tonight, John Oliver got his satirically sharp knives out for the last hours of the 42nd Canadian Federal Election. If there’s one scene that sticks above all others, after the one where the White House blows up of course, it’s the famous “rally the troops” speech by Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore. Well some industrious person on the internet thought that if Pullman could deliver that speech so good, then what about one of the best orators in current American politics: President Barack Obama. obama_kimmel

A U.S. President gets no shortage of criticism, but the new era of social media makes a lot of that criticism immediate, unsolicited, and uncensored. Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live though, Barack Obama decided that turnabout is fair play by taking part in the semi-regular Kimmel bit “Mean Tweets” where the subject of the mean tweets reads them on air. At least the President has a sense of humour about it all. Continue reading “Obama Takes “Mean Tweets” With Good Humour”
