This week on Open Sources Guelph, we hit the books! First, we will apply our combined knowledge to figure out what’s coming next in Israeli politics, and then we will deal with all the concerns at all levels of education in Ontario now that the provincial government has gotten back to work. And speaking of MPPs working, we will chat again with Guelph’s representative at Queen’s Park about what he’s working on whether the premier likes it or not! (Spoiler: he won’t like it.)
This Thursday, October 29, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss:
Yes We Can Knesset. Last week, Israeli voters went to the polls and the results were… confusing. Benjamin Netanyahu and his partners could not get to a majority, while former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot, and his more moderate alliance, had fewer seats but more momentum to get to a potential governing coalition. While Eisenkot will get his chance to prove he can lead the Knesset, Netanyahu is playing “Stop the Steal” and allegedly trying to get the War with Iran back on again. What’s the latest?
School Pays. The Ontario legislature finally returned last week after an extra long summer break, and it’s matters of education that seem to be causing the provincial government the most frustration right now. From allegations of misspent OSAP funding to the growing threats of job action in the public school system to questions around the role of school boards, it’s going to be a rough session for people concerned about if and how the kids are learning. We’ll talk about that, and wasn’t there something about a Liberal leadership race too?
Private Member’s Parts. Staying at Queen’s Park, Guelph MPP and Green Party of Ontario leader Mike Schreiner opened the fall session by making a populist play, a pair of private member’s bills including one demanding the creation of wealth tax and another imposing a province-wide moratorium on building new A.I. data centres. Schreiner will join us to talk about why he’s made these issues his priority, his concerns about Ontario’s new push for landfills, and why Doug Ford might have learned some lessons from the municipal election results last week.
Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.
