With episode 200 out of the way, this week on Open Sources Guelph, we’re going back to the current news, and there’s a lot of news to consider. This week, we travel the world as world leaders met in Argentina in a comedy of errors called the G20. Back home, we’re still worried about oil, and in Ontario we’re worried about nepotism. We’ll then wrap up the hour with a tribute to latest member of the President’s Club to take his leave. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday December 6, 2018”

Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday November 15, 2018
This week, Open Sources Guelph is awash in galling behaviour. In the United States, the President decided to skip the opportunity to remember veterans so he could pout and rage tweet in his hotel room, and in Ontario’s capital building you still never know who might be a scandal waiting to happen. It’s a bummer to be sure, and one that’s compounded this week as we say goodbye to a regular guest as he retires from the political stage. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday November 15, 2018”
Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday November 1, 2018
This week on Open Sources Guelph, it might get ugly. We’re coming off a very bad week south of the border, and it only seems to promise to get worse if you-know-who has his say. Worse still, that style of politics seems to be spreading, so we’ll make a pit stop in Brazil before heading home where fighting action on climate change has become a way to bring the country together it seems. We’ll also play catch-up with what will hopefully be a more positive development in democracy. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday November 1, 2018”

Finally, we’re getting back to normal on this week’s edition of Open Sources Guelph, and by “normal”, we mean in Trump adjusted terms. The big man will come up in a tertiary way on today’s show, but he will not be our focus. Instead, we’ll be looking at the fallout of the Municipal Election race here in Guelph and other places, the ongoing controversy over the apparent murder of a journalist in Turkey, the lack of controversy from Canada legalizing pot, and we’ll look ahead to the next election. (Naturally.) Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday October 25, 2018”

It’s Back to School Week, and that means people are getting back to the normal routine of things. This week’s edition of Open Sources Guelph is no exception, so as we head into fall, it seems appropriate to reset the clock a little (so to speak). On today’s show we’re going to update you on four big issues that have had a lot of moving parts of the last couple of weeks. In the international, we’ve got the ongoing NAFTA negotiations. In the national, we’ve still got no Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion. In the provincial, we’ve got more lawsuits for the PC government. And, in local, we’ve got a proposed suspension of bylaw enforcement. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday September 6, 2018”
Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday August 30, 2018
It’s the end of summer for us all, but it’s no where near the end of controversy here on Open Sources Guelph. As we prepare to dive deeply into the municipal election, we’ll take a quick peak at the provincial election next door. Meanwhile, south of the border, it seems like we’re reaching a climax on NAFTA renegotiations, all while the President swallows the bitter pill of decency. Speaking of decent, we’ll wrap up with discussion about the Catholic Church’s latest troubles. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday August 30, 2018”
Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday July 26, 2018
THIS WEEK ON OPEN SOURCES GUELPH… Sorry, this week on Open Sources Guelph, we’re going to walk softly and carry a sarcastic tone. Yes, we need to talk about Trump’s foreign policy, such as it is. We’re also going to talk about how it’s going with Doug Ford and Justin Trudeau on a pair of tricky portfolios. (Hint: It’s not going well.) And to wrap it up, we’re going to not get on the bus. Because in certain places in the country, there are no more buses. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday July 26, 2018”
