Kitchener MP Does it Old School in TV Ad

Just before the Federal Election was called last summer, Press Progress had a post about 13 Conservative candidates in 13 different campaign videos, but all, apparently, reading from the script, produced by the same production team with the same set designer. Call me kooky, but I think Marwan Tabbara learned a valuable lesson there. If  you don’t watch TV, or rather if you don’t watch local TV, you might have missed this. But the Kitchener South – Hespeler Member of Parliament has bought some air time on the local CTV station that he’s ready to believe you. Or something.

Joking aside, the intention of the commercial is kind of sweet and innocent. In it, Tabbara thanks those that voted for him in October, and invites his constituents to visit his office or call him if they need assistance accessing federal programs. It’s called, “We’re here to help,” and it seems like it comes straight out of the 80s or 90s in terms of its style. If it weren’t for the fact that Tabbara is a sitting MP, it would be right at home on the Retrontario Facebook page. I mean all that as a compliment by the way.

Despite the fact that Tabbara bought some local TV time to air this ad, it’s an important reminder that many MPs have a YouTube page, including our own Lloyd Longfield. Normally, the videos posted are of speeches made in the House of Commons, or of special greetings from the MP to members of his or her community on special occasions, but these YouTube channels do sometimes feel like forms of outreach we overlook, so thanks to Tabbara for reminding us.
