It’s a gong show! It’s a circus! They’re acting like children! No, that’s not the U.S. Presidential race that people were talking about this week, but yeah, we’ll get to that. On this week’s Open Sources Guelph we’ll tackle Guelph city council’s tackling of leaks and the hour-and-a-half rake out that happened at the meeting Monday. We’ll also catch up with that election south of the border and all its colourful characters, and catch-up with our local Member of Parliament to get all the latest scoop from Ottawa. Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday April 7, 2016

Stop us if you’ve heard this one, but it was a very busy news week here for Open Sources Guelph. No special guests today (but they are coming) but there will be lots of discussion on big topics. For instance, it looks like the one per cent is full of tax cheaters, some of whom you may know by name (stop us if you’ve heard this one). In other news, we bravely descend back into the muck of the U.S. Presidential Election, which marches on in perpetuity to find new levels of insanity. In the back half of the show, we’ll talk Canadian politics with a leadership test for a federal leader, and a leadership test passed for a provincial one. Continue reading

It’s been a forgone conclusion that this day was coming since the moment she conceded the Democratic primary to Barack Obama in 2008, but today, Hillary Rodham Clinton made it official. As if you didn’t know, she’s running for President of the United States. Continue reading

It seems like everyone’s getting ready for an election this week on Open Sources Guelph. Here in Canada, the Federal government is doubling down on the war with ISIS while making security the primary issue in the upcoming election. Meanwhile, south of the border, a firebrand junior senator is the first to make his play to succeed Barack Obama as President of the United States. All this, and strange monuments and stranger doings in Ontario adds up to another busy week in the news. Continue reading

Ted Cruz First to Officially Launch 2016 Presidential Bid

tedcruz

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) became the first candidate to officially enter the 2016 U.S. Presidential race today, announcing his candidacy in a speech at Liberty University. The Canadian-born Cruz, long a Tea Party darling and a paragon for ultra-conservative politics in the United States, launched his bid to be America’s 45th President before an audience at the Christian school founded by Jerry Falwell.
