Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday October 24, 2019

This week on Open Sources Guelph, we’re taking a break after our marathon five-hour live show on Election Night (and if you missed what happened, you can find all five hours on the CFRU archive, or the abridged version on the Guelph Politicast). So this episode is going to be what the kids used to call a “rerun,” but it has a specific purpose because we’re going to recap the recent appearances of Guelph’s once and future Member of Parliament. Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday October 17, 2019

This week on Open Sources Guelph we have to say goodbye to the 2019 Federal Election as an ongoing story. With five days to go before Election Day, we will welcome the last of our local candidates in the form of Liberal Lloyd Longfield, and then we’ll look back at the election issues we’ve missed, and then we’ll look ahead to how they might affect the final vote. Oh, and read to the very end to found out the best way you should spend Election Night. (Hint: it’s not watching CBC!) Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday October 17, 2019”

Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday May 2, 2019

This week on Open Sources Guelph, we take a mid-spring break. Does that sound weird? Too bad, we’re doing! Maybe we’re heading to Ottawa to see the Storm in the final round of the OHL playoffs. Maybe we’re heading south to campaign for “Uncle” Joe Biden. Maybe we’re workshopping our puppet musical about the life of Nikola Tesla. In any event, we’re replaying our most recent interviews with the MP and MPP of the riding of Guelph. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday May 2, 2019”

Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday April 4, 2019

It’s a new month, but it’s business as usual in news on this week’s edition of Open Sources Guelph. Most of that is thanks to Ottawa, and the never-ending scandal about that one Montreal engineering firm and the politicians trying to cover for it, but there is new news out there. In one small island in Canada, they may be flirting with an entirely new type of government, but will they seal the deal? So there’s that, and we’ll try and get some insight at the intersection of Federal and local with Guelph’s Member of Parliament. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday April 4, 2019”

Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday August 16, 2018

Open Sources Guelph is going Omarosa-free this week! There’s more than enough stuff in the world to be concerned about without a fight between a game show host and a game show contestant even if they are, paradoxically, the President of the United States and a former presidential advisor. Instead, we will look to the rising tide of racism and hate, and the friction between labour and management at Canada’s biggest summer fair. Oh, and we’ll have some guy named “Lloyd” on the show too. Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday August 16, 2018”

Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday March 30, 2017

On this week’s Open Sources Guelph we have to embrace the inevitable. A long-await return appearance on the show of a much discussed politician… Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield! After having to bail last minute last week, Longfield graciously offered to appear live and in-person on this Thrusday’s show to talk about the budget and other Ottawa-related stuff. Speaking of which, we’ll also discuss the government’s long-awaited plan to legalize marijuana, and while we’re on the topic of drugs, we may need to take some after we check in with Donald Trump and see what he’s been doing and saying lately.  Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday March 30, 2017”

Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday March 23, 2017

Now going three weeks strong without a branded Trump topic (you just can’t get away from this guy), Open Sources Guelph comes at you this Thursday with 100 per cent Can Con (and 75 per cent Con Con). First up, we’ll look at the now victorious new leader of the Alberta PCs and the big job he has ahead of him, and then we’ll talk about the dirty tricks employed in the federal Conservative race, which, surprisingly, were not the figment of one candidate’s imagination. Then we’ll look at this year’s federal budget with out local Member of Parliament, and discuss the concerning mess over at our favourite media punching bag.  Continue reading “Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday March 23, 2017”
