The latter refers to the unexpected outcome of the American presidential primary, one half of which was firmly resolved last week with the reality TV star clinching the win. Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday April 28, 2016

It’s a gong show! It’s a circus! They’re acting like children! No, that’s not the U.S. Presidential race that people were talking about this week, but yeah, we’ll get to that. On this week’s Open Sources Guelph we’ll tackle Guelph city council’s tackling of leaks and the hour-and-a-half rake out that happened at the meeting Monday. We’ll also catch up with that election south of the border and all its colourful characters, and catch-up with our local Member of Parliament to get all the latest scoop from Ottawa. The Weekender: Sometimes, Sarah Palin Says Something So Dumb…

It’s been a banner year for Sarah Palin. The former Alaska Governor has retaken the political stage as one of the first “establishment” Republicans to jump aboard the Trump train, she welcomed her third grandchild, and she’s going to be getting her own People’s Court-style reality show. That’s nice, but candidly if the world were to forget Sarah Palin ever existed, we wouldn’t be missing anything (and I’m aware of the irony of saying that in the midst of a takedown piece so don’t bother pointing that out). Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday April 7, 2016

Stop us if you’ve heard this one, but it was a very busy news week here for Open Sources Guelph. No special guests today (but they are coming) but there will be lots of discussion on big topics. For instance, it looks like the one per cent is full of tax cheaters, some of whom you may know by name (stop us if you’ve heard this one). In other news, we bravely descend back into the muck of the U.S. Presidential Election, which marches on in perpetuity to find new levels of insanity. In the back half of the show, we’ll talk Canadian politics with a leadership test for a federal leader, and a leadership test passed for a provincial one. It’s civics, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll on this week’s edition of Open Sources Guelph. Civics because we’ll be hosting a Guelph city councillor in the second half of the show; drugs because we’re going to be talking about Toronto is exploring a new pilot project that’s had great success in Vancouver; and rock ‘n’ roll because of the U.S. Presidential Election, which remains the greatest show on Earth. The Weekender: The Best Thing for America is a Trump Win. Seriously.

A couple of months ago, I wrote a piece in this space about how Donald Trump was not Rob Ford, but to look at the situation a different way, perhaps the best thing the American voter can do is get Donald Trump out of their system, like Toronto did with Ford. The come out of nowhere election of Ford in 2010 surprised even the most skeptical of pundits; it floored the media and the political establishment that an unpolished, unpracticed populist with a simple message and a proclivity to stick his foot in his mouth would rise to the highest office in North America’s fourth largest city. On that basis, the comparisons between Trump and Ford are easy, and that’s why we know that the only way Americans are going to shake off the siren song of winning “yuge” is by seeing what four years under Trump looks like. No matter where you reside on the political spectrum, watching the drama unfold Tuesday night had you on the edge of your seat as an intrepid, trail-blazing woman tried to hold her own against a consortium of powerful men had you mesmerized… But enough about the Agent Carter finale! This week on Open Sources Guelph, we’ll eagerly take up the American political discussion again, and mix in the promised dissection of last week’s Ontario Budget.
