It’s a bit late, admittedly, but since we don’t control time here on Open Sources Guelph (yet) we’re going to make this Thursday Earth Day, and mark the occasion with a discussion with a couple of local environmental advocates. On top of that, we’ll be talking to another NDP leadership candidate who was in town last week, and we’ll be discussing a pilot project from the Ontario government to give the poor more certainty in these highly uncertain times.  Continue reading

Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday March 9, 2017

In order to reaffirm that there’s a world of politics beyond whatever zaniness that comes out of the Twitter feed of the President of the United States, this week’s Open Sources Guelph is proudly Trump-Free. So what will we talk about instead? Well, there are two federal leadership races in progress here in Canada, and the left-wing one has finally decided to make it an actual election by having more than one guy throw his hat into the ring. Then, in the back half of the show, we’ll look at the growing trend of hate here in Canada, one form that the government’s getting blowback for trying to do something about, and another that the government is considering taking action on.  Continue reading

Terror. Now that we have your attention, it’s time to talk about this week’s Open Sources Guelph. After being made afraid of going to the mall and digging holes, we’ll talk to someone afraid of four more years of Harper. Then, after the break, we’ll be afraid for our friends in the First Nation community with another scary development, and then we’ll see if we should be afraid of talking about S-E-X in front of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N. Charlie Angus Coming to Guelph to Spark Election Fever for NDP

A lot of the local news for the upcoming Federal Election has been in regards to the very busy race for the Liberal nomination, but what of other opposition parties? The NDP hopes to make their presence felt in the suddenly vacant Royal City riding by bringing in a trusted representative to rile up the base. Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus will be at the Bullring at the University of Guelph on Sunday February 22 to do a fundraising concert to “build momentum” for the 2015 election. Continue reading
