It’s another week on Open Sources Guelph, and there’s a lot of Canadian political news to get to. First, a couple of exclusives! We’ll have a first hand account of the the latest Conservative leadership debate this past weekend, plus an interview with one of the people running for the NDP leadership race (albeit the topic is a very specific issue). The Don Meredith saga hasn’t managed to reveal anything new to us about the operations of the creaky, antiquated wasteland that is the Senate of Canada. It was designed as a bastion of patronage and will remain ever thus until it is levelled to the foundations, restructured or deleted. Piecemeal tinkering, such as when Trudeau declared that there are no more Liberal senators, will never repair it. It was built to reward the party cronies and faithful pure and simple; some of whom are replete with skills, others are a downright waste of space. If Harper had wanted to boost his cred with the social conservatives in the party ranks, there are plenty of Reverend Doctor Pastors out there to choose from. Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday March 30, 2017

On this week’s Open Sources Guelph we have to embrace the inevitable. A long-await return appearance on the show of a much discussed politician… Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield! After having to bail last minute last week, Longfield graciously offered to appear live and in-person on this Thrusday’s show to talk about the budget and other Ottawa-related stuff. Let us pause the resistance for a moment to wallow in the crapulance of Donald Trump’s reputation as a negotiator and great deal maker. Trump’s election to the U.S. presidency was based on the erroneous notion that he was a businessman par excellence, that he could run the government like a business and make the deals that career politicians cannot. In fact, there’s miles of evidence that shows Trump’s horrid track record as a businessman, and in just 64 very long days there’s now quite a collection of proof that the talents Trump doesn’t have in business are not helping him as president either. Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday March 23, 2017

Now going three weeks strong without a branded Trump topic (you just can’t get away from this guy), Open Sources Guelph comes at you this Thursday with 100 per cent Can Con (and 75 per cent Con Con). First up, we’ll look at the now victorious new leader of the Alberta PCs and the big job he has ahead of him, and then we’ll talk about the dirty tricks employed in the federal Conservative race, which, surprisingly, were not the figment of one candidate’s imagination. Now Donald Trump’s Going to Get a Comic Book Too…

Almost a year ago, we posted about the arrival of Justin Trudeau in comic book form, and how it mirrored the comic book boom of Barack Obama when he was first elected as President in 2008. Well, the new President, Donald J. Trump, is not immune to comic book inspiration in seems, but in the case of “45” this graphic novel is hardly going to be flattering.
