There are no easy answers on this week’s Open Sources Guelph. The year 2017 will likely go down as the one where everything changed for women in the workplace, and the allegations keep coming in against more and more powerful men, and we’ll talk about the latest on the political side of things. Also, college students are finally back at school, but the real question is what have they lost? We see again that these vaunted pipeline projects also lose, even if they win, and people in Toronto are wondering if they’ve gained something by getting rid of traffic from a key section of King Street. This week on Open Sources Guelph it’s a Canadian affair. We sometimes get so enraptured in the pinball machine south of the border, and the sometimes devastating state of things overseas, that we don’t look as closely at our country, but that’s why this week’s show is different. First, we’ll talk about someone’s talking, and then we’ll talk about the latest in trade talks. Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday November 9, 2017

This week on Open Sources Guelph, more bad news. The rich are getting richer by not playing by the rules and we once again have the papers to prove it. The government is attacking walkers because a few of them are looking at their phones rather than the sidewalk, which isn’t great, but hardly where the problem lies. But at the end of the day, what does any of this matter, because it turns out more of us are being killed by pollution than pestilence, famine, and all the other horsemen combined. Welcome to November, and can you believe it’s almost been a year since Donald Trump was first elected as President of the United States? Neither can we. It’s felt like three years! But seriously, the man himself will be one of the topics on this week’s Open Sources Guelph, as we dive into the highly consequential events this past Monday and what it means going forward. Open Sources Show Notes for Thursday October 26, 2017

This week on Open Sources Guelph, we’re talking about unity and division. Mostly division. Right now, the United Nations is divided because of a perhaps ill-advised Goodwill Ambassadorship that has since been revoked, Quebec is divided because of the government’s latest assault against religious attire, and there’s division in Russia because that’s just the way Putin likes it. As for unity, we look to Alberta and all it’s conservatives, big and small ‘c’, who are trying to find one leader to unite them all for the next election. It’s time for another week of fun and adventure here on Open Sources Guelph, and by “fun” and “adventure”, we mean concern and insanity. Back in the U.S., the president decided that he’s had enough of international diplomacy no matter how well it’s working. Meanwhile, in Calgary, the voters there have decided that they like their current municipal leadership just fine, thank you. But there is cause for concern. Open Sources Guelph is your voice for depressing news. Not always, of course, but definitely this week. For instance, we have to talk again about why Truth and Reconciliation with our Indigenous people seems just as far away as it’s ever been. We also have to talk about why there seems to be no new help for Guelph’s most vulnerable people. And to top it all off, we have to talk about why another beloved pipeline will never see the light of day.
